Manthey EMA to field two Porsche 911 GT3 R in the 2023 DTM

  • Manthey EMA enters two Porsche 911 GT3 R with starting numbers #90 and #91
  • Dennis Olsen and Thomas Preining confirmed as drivers
  • Manthey and EMA Motorsport intensify cooperation

Meuspath. Manthey EMA has confirmed the entry of two 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R for the 2023 DTM season, further strengthening the collaboration between the Meuspath-based squad and Australian racing team EMA Motorsport. Porsche contract driver Dennis Olsen and works driver Thomas Preining will pilot the 911s with starting numbers 90 and 91, bringing the Manthey name back to one of the world's most popular GT series after more than 20 years.

"We are very delighted to be competing in the DTM this year. After concentrating a lot on racing the Porsche 911 RSR in the WEC together with Porsche Motorsport and our entries on the Nordschleife in recent years, we are ready for a new project with EMA Motorsport. A big thank you goes to our sponsors who support this commitment. Our team is strongly positioned and highly motivated. With Dennis Olsen and Thomas Preining, we have two drivers with DTM experience behind the wheel. I`m excited about what this motorsport year has in store for us," emphasizes Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey Racing GmbH.

Manthey looks back on a successful history in the DTM. Company founder Olaf Manthey was vice-champion of the DTM in 1984 and 1985 and won the drivers' championship in the newly founded DTM Classic Cup last year. As a team, Manthey last entered two AMG-Mercedes CLK-DTM cars in the touring car series in 2001 and 2002. "GT3 cars have been eligible to compete in the DTM for two years now, and the grid promises exciting races. I am very pleased that with Manthey EMA our name is returning to the DTM," explains Olaf Manthey, the founder and namesake of the company.

This will be the second season in the DTM for Dennis Olsen and Thomas Preining. The drivers from the Porsche squad finished seven races on the podium last year. Among others, Austrian Preining clinched Porsche's first DTM victory at the Norisring, followed by another triumph at the Red Bull Ring. The Norwegian Olsen won at Spa-Francorchamps. Both drivers have competed for Manthey in the past. Factory driver Thomas Preining recently finished second in the Bathurst 12 Hour for Manthey EMA.

With their entry in the DTM, Manthey and EMA Motorsport are expanding their current partnership. The Australian-based GT motorsport team made its European debut with the 24 Hours of Spa last year, followed by a Manthey-backed stint in the eighth round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series. This year, under the joint team name Manthey EMA, the two companies entered a Porsche 911 GT3 R in the 12-hour race at Bathurst. Finishing second, the team missed out on overall victory by less than a second.

The DTM season opener will take place at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on 27-28 May 2023. The design of the two 911s will be announced at a later date.
